1. Martial Arts
Originating from Asian countries, Martial Arts, including disciplines such as Judo, Jujitsu, Krav Maga and Taekwondo, were developed as ancient forms of self-defense. You’ll learn a highly practical skill that will give you the ability to defend yourself. These days Martial Arts are used to provide an incredible full-body workout combined with high levels of mental stimulation. Most martial arts require strategic thinking and also encourage a strong sense of community and brotherhood as you train and bond together over these highly rewarding pursuits.
2. Offroad Car Racing
Is there anything more manly, fun and challenging than navigating rocky and treacherous off paved roads in a specially converted vehicle that you’ve had a hand in developing? There’s just the right amount of danger to get the pulse racing but you’ll also require engineering and navigating skills which keep the old grey matter working hard. Throw in some healthy competition and you have a great day out in the making.
If it’s unique that you’re looking for, then what about channeling your inner Musketeer and taking up fencing. It’s a highly strategic and competitive sport, which also happens to be a fantastic full-body workout. It requires athleticism, technique and tactical thinking.
If you’re a lover of outdoor pursuits and have already tried your hand at skiing and snowboarding, then how about taking up windsurfing for a change? You’ll improve your balance, strengthen your core, plus you get to spend time down at the beach hanging out and looking cool! Well, once you’ve mastered the basics at least.
5. Flying Model Planes and Drones
If you love your gadgets and you love getting outside, then you can combine both passions with this cool pastime. Whether you are into aerial photography or want to experiment with aero-acrobatics, enjoying the miracle of flight miniature style is so much fun. Better still, you are at the controls which is highly satisfying. Luckily there is a considerable array of model planes, helicopters and drones available to suit all budgets.
6. Learning To Use Ham Radio
Breaker Breaker! Who remembers Smokey and the Bandit? If you always fancied transmitting messages over the airwaves and joining a global community of amateur radio enthusiasts, then why not take up ham radio? It’s a valuable skill, you can communicate with a supportive network literally all around the world. Plus, you get to learn your own technical language. So instead of taking up Spanish or Chinese this year, think about taking up the language of Radio.
If you prefer to stay indoors and also want to combine your recreational time with a potential new revenue stream, then why not consider learning how to code? Yes, it can be challenging and complicated at first as you acquire an entirely new language that doesn’t use words. However, it’s ultimately rewarding, particularly if you can develop your own apps or even build games. Plus, you might end up learning how to automate some of the more tedious elements of your current job!
You asked for unique and we’re giving it to you! Rather than landscape painting, or graphic design, how about putting your artistic skills to use in a far more permanent and long-lasting way? If you have a strong creative streak, learning how to ink people could be a liberating and incredibly expressive way of spending your spare time.
Lots of people are blogging these days. You don’t need to be a journalist or have a degree in English to run your own blog.
