With great power comes 18-core, 36-thread processor. Intel’s latest Extreme Edition chip, the Core-i9 7980XE, features a 2.6Ghz base clockspeed and a Turbo clock of up to 4.4 GHz in single threaded workloads.

The Core-i9 7980XE also offers you 24.75 MB of L3 cache, 44 PCIe lanes, and 165W TDP in exchange for your $2000.

But the price is not much of an issue here especially if the chip is unlocked, which means you’re given the freedom to push the clockspeeds higher. It may be interesting to note also that based on tests, the 7980XE has a clockspeed of 3.4 GHz albeit all 18 cores are loaded.

This means you get 30% faster processes even in extreme mega tasking. For the uninitiated, this translates to gaming while 3D rendering or video transcoding in the background without experiencing lags whatsoever.

Excited? The Core i9-7980XE becomes available on September 25.
