From childhood, we’ve loved beating on things and making loud noises. On the way to adulthood — for some of us anyway — it becomes an art form. This new Kickstarter project from London-based Deirdre O’Callaghan seeks to offer an unprecedented look into the life of a percussionist. To make The Drum Thing more than just a boring book on music theory, O’Callaghan features an impressive list of talent, including Roy Haynes (Miles Davis, Charlie Parker), Questlove (The Roots), Neil Peart (Rush), Hal Blaine (The Wrecking Crew), Nick Mason (Pink Floyd), Larry Mullen (U2), Jim Keltner (Legendary Session Drummer), and Jon Theodore (Queens of the Stoneage). And believe us when we tell you that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

The format of the book uses portraits, detailed shots from the artists’ lives, and in-depth interviews to bring these artisans to life in a way that few books or documentaries have before. The project ends today, and it’s not quite at the Kickstarter goal, but it’s so close. Rush over there while you still can and chip in a few bucks!
