Misplacing your keys sucks. You know what’s even worse? Misplacing your child. Those are exactly the types of situations that StoneTether, the newest KickStarter-based tracking device, hopes to prevent. Much like Tile or Chipolo, StoneTether is a wireless tracking device which you can attach or stick onto your valuables, but StoneTether has a number of interesting features which make it stand out in an otherwise crowded market.

First of all, StoneTether is small. Really small. At about 30mm across, it’s about the size of a quarter. Yet despite its appearance, it’s actually an incredibly full featured product. StoneTether can track valuables up to 500 feet, more than 3-4 times the range of Tile. Also, unlike Tile, StoneTether is water-resistant up to 30 feet and isn’t meant to be disposable. Users will be able to replace the built in CR2016 battery once the 1-year battery life has been depleted.

The primary way of interacting with StoneTether will be through it’s iOS/Android smartphone app   which will include cloud functionality so users can track their items, pets, or children through multiple smart devices. This promising wireless tracker also comes 6 different colors (including glow-in-the-dark!) so there’s a color for everyone. StoneTether is currently up on KickStarter and  it has earned more than $312,000 out of its $15,000 goal so it looks like it will end up being funded.
