If you love taking selfies or groufies, you’ll probably love the new feature the Olympus Pen E-PL9 has. But before we talk about it, let us first give you a quick rundown of how it compares to its predecessor the E-PL8.
First, the PL9 is now 4K-enabled with 120fps slow motion at 720p. This is not something new, we know, but this is the first among PL cameras.
Olympus Pen E-PL9 has also been redesigned to give you a better grip when taking pictures and videos.
But what makes this one of the great choices for selfie lovers is the flip down LCD, the various selfie modes, and the super fast internal popup flash.
The flip down LCD makes it easier for you to adjust because you can see where the lens’ focus is. The selfie modes also help you better-looking images all the time. The popup flash, on the other hand, ensures your images are clear enough even when taken under low light.
Its lens is also interchangeable depending on your needs so you can capture optimal images.
Here are some more of its specs:

What’s missing from the E-PL9, however, is the lack of microphone socket. This means that, for vloggers, this may not be the camera for you. Also, the flip down LCD screen is, ironically, its Achilles heel.
When we take pictures, we don’t always rely on our hands to hold the camera for us because, as you know, we shake, resulting in blurry images. Instead, we use tripods to make each shot stable.
With the flip down LCD, however, that’s just impossible. So it’s either you make your arms stronger or get another camera at this price point such as the Fujifilm X-A5.
