If you’re still feeling slighted by all of the self-hype that Segway put out there before they announced their first-gen human transporter way back in 2001 then maybe you should look into getting Xiaomi’s Ninebot mini. With a price tag of just $315, the mini is a self-balancing scooter-like transporter which can move you around at speeds up to 10mph all while tackling 15 degree hills and with a maximum range of 14 miles on a single charge. Unlike a Segway the mini is meant to be portable as it weighs just 28 pounds and can be easily stored in a car trunk. Also unlike a Segway, the mini can be paired with a smartphone in order to upgrade the firmware and/or monitor speed, traffic data and diagnostic information.

Already drooling about the possibility of riding around town on a mini? You’ll have to put down your credit card for the moment as there’s no word on an international release just yet. Stay tuned.
