Are you the type of person who likes to stay on top of all the latest and breaking news? If so, then you’re going to love Facebook’s Signal product. Aimed at journalists who are looking to cover breaking stories, Signal is meant to be Facebook’s answer to all of the Twitter embeds that are found in news stories. The way Facebook describes Signal is as “a free discovery and curation tool for journalists who want to source, gather, and embed newsworthy content from Facebook and Instagram, across news, culture, entertainment, sports, and more — all in one place.”

Signal works by displaying what’s trending across the social network in a sort of “Leaderboards” view. There’s search functionality built-in for those who are looking for particular stories and even categories which device whats trending based on the topic that those trending stories are about.

Facebook Signal may eventually overtake the Twitter trending topic list as a source for everything viral. It’s only open to pre-approved journalists right now, but we can’t see why Facebook won’t eventually open it to the rest of its audience as time goes by.
