Virtual Reality is about to change everything. That is, if we get enough content to make it worth while. In order to give everyone a chance to produce their very own action-packed virtual reality videos (and to combat a recent slump in sales), GoPro has just unveiled the Omni — a consumer grade VR camera rig which will capture your experiences in a glorious 360 degrees. While Omni may not be GoPro’s first foray into VR cameras, it is by far the cheapest. At launch, the rig is expected to cost only $3000, a far cry from the over $10,000 that it’s last VR camera was being sold at.
The rig itself is made out of plastic and contains room for up to six Hero 4 cameras. The Hero 4, for those of you who don’t remember, is fully capable of recording 4K video content and features image quality which is unmatched in the action cam space.
There’s no word on a release date just yet, but many in the industry are predicting sometime after June.
