For many of us the wait for Star Wars Episode 7 seems like it’s been going on for nearly our entire lifetimes. Well as you’re no doubt well aware, that wait is finally over. The Force Awakens has finally made it to theaters all around the world and eager fans of the iconic space opera movie franchise lined up in droves to go see it.

But what about the casual fan? Or the person who has only seen the prequels? Should they go see this year’s biggest wintertime blockbuster? The answer is undoubtedly yes. Anything Star Wars is instant pop culture legend and will be referenced endlessly for years to come. Even when you consider the universally panned prequels, you’d be hard pressed to find someone who hasn’t heard of Jar Jar at least once.

There’s also the technical knowhow and special effects work which has gone into this film. J.J Abrams has nailed blending practical and special effects in a way which has never been seen before in Hollywood. Star Wars has always been a harbinger of things to come, a sort of tech demo for the future of how films will look. That alone makes it worth a watch, if you’re the type of person who enjoys beautifully shot movies. Oh, and the story is actually pretty good this time around.
