Elon Musk wants to change the world, that much has been clear to anyone who’s even casually followed the rockstar entrepreneur’s meteoric rise. With PayPal he wanted to democratize digital payment, with SpaceX he wanted to bring us closer to the stars, and with Tesla he wanted to cut carbon emissions. Now in order to make that last dream come closer to fruition, he’s announced a battery initiative called Powerwall which is designed to power homes, businesses, and even public utilities. Powerwall is designed as an infinitely scalable power solution which can be used as a backup power solution or help your home go off the grid completely.
Unlike Musk’s earlier ventures and products, which were often aimed at a high end or business market, the Powerwall is aimed at the average homeowner. As you’d expect from Tesla product, it’s available in several colors and has a real focus on design with Elon Musk going as far as comparing to a sculpture or painting. There’s no news on when the Powerwall will be released but we’re betting this isn’t the last we’ll hear about it.
