While Apple’s new iPhone 7 was the clear star at yesterday’s event, one of the more overlooked products of that announcement are the new wireless AirPods which also made their debut yesterday. As Apple’s first all-wireless earbuds, these handy little audio-emitting devices were clearly borne out of the Beats acquisition of 2014.
Infused with the same care and high technology that graces other Apple products, AirPods are completely cord-free and feature something called a “W1 chip” which ensures reliable wireless connection, every time. There’s also infrared sensors within the device itself which detects when each AirPod is in your ear, enabling them to only play when they’re in your ears. Other features include a motion accelerometer which’ll allow you to change volume on the earbuds and even activate Siri as well as a new beam-forming directional microphone which reduces external noise.
All of this with a 5 hour battery life and a compact charging case that delivers up to 24 hours of battery on a single charge. Find out more from Apple’s official site linked below.
