You’ve gotta hand it to Adidas, more than any other major footwear manufacturer they’re really pushing the boundaries of what shoes can be made out of. To that end, the company has been experimenting with 3D printing as a means of manufacturing their shoes for a couple of years now — problem is that these shoes were almost always concepts. Until now.
Enter the Adidas 3D Runner, an all-black stylish sneaker that you can actually buy. Now you might be wondering why we’re making such a big deal about 3D printed shoes and the answer is that 3D printing technology allows for finer control over the finished product. This means, in concrete terms, that this shoe’s engineered 3D structure is more dense in high-stress areas and less dense in others for optimal performance and weight. Heck, it even has a 3D printed heel counter integrated into the midsole so you can be sure that you’ll be getting peak performance out of your footwear. More below.
