Wii U

Wii U

Nintendo’s been lax in the set-top console market since it first released the Wii back in 2006. Well, Nintendo has returned with another ingenious device called “Wii U”.

The Wii U is a small white box that’s backwards-compatible with all your existing Wii accessories and games, so you won’t have to worry about scrapping everything and starting fresh. However, the biggest news about Wii U aren’t the next-gen graphics on par with the PS3 and Xbox 360, nor is it the 1080p output. No, the biggest thing about the Wii U is the controller.

Wii U’s controller features a 6.2-inch touchscreen with a built-in accelerometer, gyroscope, front-facing camera, microphone and speakers. You’re basically getting two systems for the price of one. How so? If someone decides to take over the TV while you’re in the middle of a game, the game gets beamed over to the controller so you can continue playing.

The Wii U controller’s screen also acts as an auxiliary portal to in-game menus, RPG character inventories, maps and even as a tee for golf games. Don’t believe me? Don’t think the future is here yet? Check out the demo video and judge for yourself, then prepare to wait until 2012 to get your hands on one.
