The Form 1 3D Printer

By Aric Mitchell on December 22, 2012

From the “I effing love technology” department comes this transparent and powerful addition to the world of 3D printing. Take your digital concepts and turn them into a three-dimensional reality whether for work or pleasure. A technology that once could only be envisioned in science fiction is now somewhat affordable, and many civil engineers, industrial designers, automotive professionals, jewelry and footwear manufacturing companies, and even dentists are getting in on the action.

This one from Formlabs comes equipped with .STL file input and .FORM file output, which I’m told is pretty awesome, but matters far less than the precision and detail that comes through the additive process. This particular 3D Printer also works with software from both Microsoft and Mac packages so you don’t have to worry about having the proper hardware driving production. Last but not least, the alcohol-based FormFinish Kit attempts to make cleanup a breeze.
