Adding another to the list of “Movies Christian Bale abuses his body for” is The Fighter. However, this time, it seems well worth it. Telling the story of the trials and tribulation of boxer “Irish” Micky Ward (played by Mark Wahlberg), the movie has been one of the best reviewed of the season (especially the performances of Wahlberg, Bale, Amy Adams, and Melissa Leo) and has already achieved a smattering of awards, which will only rise after the Academy Awards.
If the award show set doesn’t hold weight with your opinion, Sports Illustrated has said that it’s the best sports movie to come along since Raging Bull. High praise indeed. It’s definitely worth a watch.
