The iconic Technics turntable is back in a big way. While last year’s SL-1200G marked the official return of the lauded turntable, most people weren’t able to afford buying their own due to a ludicrously high price point. Realizing this, Technics Grand Class SL-1200GR Turntable, a music player that includes much of the same technology that its predecessor boasted for significantly less cash.

As we alluded to earlier, the Grand Class SL-1200GR is very much an iteration on last year’s model. This means that there’s the same coreless direct-drive motor with rotor magnets placed on both sides to eliminate rotation irregularities. The platter itself is equally impressive with a two-layer, die-cast aluminum coat that’s been upgraded with sound dampening rubber on its entire rear surface. If that weren’t enough, the aluminum tonearm is hand-assembled and tuned entirely by Japanese artisans.
