Skier Controlled Tow Boat

By Michael Bock on April 25, 2011

Ever wanted to go water skiing but didn’t have access to a driver or boat; or perhaps you do, but crave exclusive control of the tow boat instead of being subject to the captain’s whim? Look no further than the Skier Controlled Tow Boat—great for activities like water skiing, wake or knee boarding.

The Hammacher Schlemmer unmanned tow boat sports a ‘joy-stick’ where normally there would be just a grab handle for the rider. The lucky operator determines when the watercraft begins and stops, how much it speeds up/slows down, and which direction s/he is going to pursue. It’ll take some time to master. But will it be totally kick-ass after you’ve initially had the experience of being flung into a grassy swamp? Yes!

The unmanned tow boat sports a three-cylinder, jet-propelled 70hp engine and boasts a 40mph top speed. Additionally, it’s fully equipped with a bilge pump for ridding excess water in the boat and is constructed of a very rugged fiberglass/polymer composite. A generous 40-ft tow rope is also standard.

Now that’s what we call A damn fine day at the lake!
