Go-Anywhere Machines | By Hauk Designs

Go-Anywhere Machines, courtesy the think-tank at Hauk Designs: Possibly the ultimate boy-toys? Among the, well, go-practically-anywhere Go-Anywhere lineup, here’s a sampling:

River Raider: Equipped with a massive 5.7 liter Hemi, Snorkel engine system, and 20″ Raceline tires, it’ll traverse rocks and through water like no other Jeep.

Rock Raider 4-Door: A Hemi-equipped beast with super-rugged Dana 60 front-and-rear axles (complete with full locking differentials), a full-length aluminum skidplate, remotely-controlled winch, and super-reinforced roll cage.

Dune X: A Hemi-boasting off-roader that sports a gorgeous, teak-finished tonneau-cover; remotely controlled, waterproof winch; Teraflex (long-arm) suspension; and a solid aluminum, full-length skidplate.

Hate the one-size-fits-all mentality and got loads of cash to blow on a custom Go Anywhere truck? Hauk Designs will make it happen.

Married men: You may want to check with the Mrs. first, though!

Terrafugia Transition | Flying Car

Terrafugia Transition | Flying Car

They promised it in the 90′s, but it never happened. They promised again by 2006 – again, no dice. Finally, as of the summer of 2011, the first promising air/land vehicle – the Transition Flying Car by Terrafugia – is almost ready to takeoff.

The Transition is still a few years from being mass marketed, pending issues such as the lack of USDOT-mandated airbags, crash-resistant glass, and a steep price. However, it’s the biggest leap in land/air hybrid travel thus far. In addition to the “stow-and-go”-style wings that fold neatly while on the gravel, the Transition boasts an air range of 500 miles, can take flight with only a 518m runway, and cruises the skies at 105mph (93kts/172 km/h).

Other kick-ass features include:

  • A cargo area for all your nicknacks (groceries, perhaps?)
  • A 100hp Rotax engine (red light challenges not recommended, :-D )
  • A full-body parachute and safety glass

Two of the last hurdles for its engineers? Raising the maximum cargo weight higher than (only) 330lbs and dropping its quarter-of-a-million dollar price tag…

Hoverbike

Hoverbike

We at inStash have tested and reviewed some pretty kickass products (and unfortunately haven’t had the fortune of trying out this one…yet), but the Hoverbike probably takes the grand prize for “Most Awe-inspiring, Freaking Cool Invention”!

Reminiscent of some sort of transport device from a video game, the Hoverbike is a multipurpose, ultralight aircraft (yeah, AIRCRAFT) that’s powered by an 80 kW, twin 4-stroke engine. Potential uses for such awesomeness include aerial surveillance, film-making, search & rescue and so much more badassery.

Additionally, the Hoverbike:

  • Can soar up to 10,000 feet, although this has yet to be tested
  • Weighs only 240 lbs and can support up to an additional 400 lbs
  • Boasts motorcycle-like operation, complete with handlebar with controls for speed & navigation
  • Is made of top-grade carbon fiber (including the propellers), helping it achieve up to a 100-mile range
  • Has a (theoretical) top-speed of 150 aeronautical knots/hour (about 172 mph)

It’s still in the prototype phase, but rest assured, when this baby is official, it’ll make the once-futuristic Segway seem like yesteryear’s toaster oven.

Unicat EX70-HDQ / MAN TGA 6x6

Unicat EX70-HDQ / MAN TGA 6×6

Outwardly, the Unicat EX70-HDQ probably won’t elicit much excitement. One look at the specs, though, and it becomes instantly clear that this seemingly industrial-type vehicle is actually a go-anywhere, fully-featured motorhome.

Featured inside (of what looks like a motorhome that had sex with a Hummer and then took steroids) includes:

  • A full-size bed that sits atop a sort of loft within the living space.
  • A U-shaped sofa that can double as an extra double bed.
  • A shower room and separated toilet/lavatory
  • A fully-featured kitchen with espresso maker and dishwasher
  • Customizable materials and textures that could easily be mistaken for a Delta first-class section.

Don’t let the luxurious interior fool you, though; this truck is going places an ordinary motorhome could only dream of. Proof includes:

  • A 6 x 6, MAN-TGA
  • A 480 horsepower engine
  • 16-gear ZF-rated transmission
  • 20″F/16″R tubeless tires w/ electronic monitoring system
  • 2 fuel tanks with a total capacity of 198 gallons (750L)
  • HVAC system
  • Storage for an ATV
  • Double-insulated, thermal windows (w/ skylights)

…and, frankly, too many additional goodies to list.

Critter Gitter

Critter Gitter

If anything ever had the right to claim itself a macho boy-toy, the Critter Gitter does. Resembling a pontoon mounted on monster-truck wheels, the 13,000lb, 30ft-long Critter Gitter is one serious-ass machine. Gander at the specs, though, and you then realize that this is far more than just a camouflage-laden people carrier on steroids. Standard equipment:

  • An Earth-crushing 8.2L V8 custom-built Ford big-block, a military-grade C-6 transmission, and massive 64” tires riding on 2.5 ton axles.
  • A Bazooka sound system that includes four giant outdoor speakers, a CD player and iPod connection.
  • Leather seats, all with individual gun and cup holders, with removable rear seats for extra cargo-totin’ capabilities in the rear.
  • A livestock feed system that includes a lower water tank with pressurized connections and upper and lower feeder tanks with electronic motor assemblies (for corn, milo, etc.)—all manipulative via dash-mounted controls.
  • A hydraulically-operated rear ladder and steps, sliding ramp and winch for hauling large game and seats up into the beast, and sophisticated suspension-mounted airbag system (also of which can be controlled via the flick of a switch on the dash).

Eat your heart out, Hunter Thompson.

2011 Can-Am Commander

2011 Can-Am Commander

At the end of a long week, there is nothing left to do but take your frustrations out on the weekend. Until now, however, your side-by-side probably wasn’t enough to adequately express your disdain. Introducing the 2011 Can-Am Commander, a beastly little black-and-gold unit that is sure to get your adrenaline pumping. With unparalleled power in the side-by-side industry, a vast amount of cargo storage, and suspension that’ll cushion every last bump, this monster is a different way to ride off the beaten path.

The 2011 Can-Am Commander will sail over rocks and crags, mud tracks, and even small bodies of water without tuckering out. In fact, you will probably have had enough long before this thing has. For off-road enthusiasts only, models start at around $11,700, which isn’t a heck of a lot, all things considered. If you’ve got the money to burn, then by all means, light up!

Quadski | Personal Sports Amphibian

Quadski | Personal Sports Amphibian

Ever since the debut of the spy genre, we’ve been fascinated with the idea of one machine transforming into two. Vehicles that turn into other vehicles, a single machine that fills a dozen different roles. While we’re not quite at the level of having Megazord, we have started getting machines that begin to cover more than one purpose. Like the Quadski.

Part quadbike, part jet-ski, this changes from one to another in under 5 seconds at the push of a button. The 140 bph motor can reach 50 mph on both land and water, all the while letting you pretend to be James Bond. If you’ve ever wanted to be the lead in your own spy movie, this is your first step.

2011 Yamaha Apex SE Snowmobile

2011 Yamaha Apex SE Snowmobile

Just in time for the winter–or maybe a little late for some of us–comes the 2011 Yamaha Apex SE Snowmobile, which boasts expert handling, comfort and power unsurpassed by any other snowmobile out there. Capable of speeds at 35 miles per hour–believe us, you don’t want to go where this thing can go any faster than that–the design and build of the Apex SE is efficient and powerful all at once.

Featuring a four-cylinder engine for power, newly designed skis for cornering ability, and Mono Shock II Air in the rear suspension department, the 2011 Yamaha Apex SE Snowmobile allows you to speed up and down the trails with more of a coasting effect. Great addition to the garage if you live anywhere in the U.S. that’s getting pounded with wintry weather. Go to the store, get out of the house, run down your neighbor’s dog for crapping on the lawn–the Apex is, in a word, versatile.

Futuria SportSpa Caravan

Futuria SportSpa Caravan

In the market for a new home, but nothing in your area has wheels? Head over to your nearest real estate agent/RV dealer and check out the Futuria SportSpa Caravan.

The 38-foot motorized abode features a luxurious interior with leather furniture, roof terrace with accompanying jacuzzi, and a sports car garage. Yes, this land yacht could house that spiffy Lotus Evora we just talked about.

If you’ve got $840,000 just burning a hole in your pocket (probably a hole big enough to drive a Mack truck through), you might want to invest in this one bedroom, one bathroom luxury ride and give those country-traveling retirees a run for their money.
