Pioneer AppRadio 2

Pioneer AppRadio 2

Revealed at CES 2012, the AppRadio 2 from Pioneer promises to be the latest and greatest marriage of smartphone and in-auto audio systems. If you loved the original AppRadio, don’t worry. You will get more of the same with this incarnation. But add on the option of micro HDMI connection and Mobile High Definition Link, as well as Android smartphone compatibility (for most models), and you’ve got a non-Apple product that gives the Job-ites a run for their money.

With a 7-inch touchscreen display at 800 x 480 pixels, the option to mount a back camera on your vehicle, and automatic Bluetooth capabilities for those of you paranoid about hands-on calling, this is a radio device that hammers home convenience and safety above all else. It can also coordinate with steering wheel controls and add on external amplifiers. All for the low price of $499, and coming your way in April 2012.…

Scarface With Limited Edition Humidor

Scarface With Limited Edition Humidor

Just when you thought you’d seen every fathomable product that caters almost exclusively to the male ego (e.g. Hummer, Harley-Davidson, Playboy…), well, you ain’t seen nothin’ yet.

So you’re a Scarface fan and cigar afficianado, right? And you’ve got a thousand-large to blow on something that’ll likely piss off the girlfriend or wife? Consider the Scarface Blu-ray collection with Limited Edition Humidor. Handcrafted of fine, untreated Spanish cedar and laden with, literally, dozens of coats of varnish, there’s only 1,000 of these babies available.

For the price, though, I’m thinking “shouldn’t they throw in at least a few fine, imported stogies with my copy of say-hello-to-my-little-friend Scarface humidor??”…

Brennwagen Grills

Brennwagen Grills come in three different models, and range from an affordable $725 to a life-changing $6,300. If you’re into grilling, though, these will hit the spot at any price level. Designed by a former Formula One racer, you can kind of see the pedigree at work when you get a peek.

The GTC 500 is the low man on the totem pole, but still features plenty of storage on two wheels in a unit the size of a hibachi grill. Any of these models offer the finest tailgating available, so loosen the purse strings and go grill wild. And while you’re at it, load up on these Grilling & BBQ Kits to help bring out the flavor.…

The Impossible Collection of Cars

The Impossible Collection of Cars

It’s only natural that a book about the 100 most exceptional cars of the 20th century should in itself be as high end and stylish as the vehicles featured in it. You can’t drive it on the highway but you can sure admire its sleek lines.Printed on cotton paper, the same stuff they print archival documents and even money on because it lasts forever, and presented in a black rubber box with a cutout metal plate, this gorgeous volume features not only the most notable car designs all the way from a 1909 Blitzen Benz to a 1997 Porsche 993, but also cars made famous by the people who drove them, like Elvis and Picasso.

Text is by Pulitzer Prize-winner Dan Neil, autmotive columnist for the Wall Street Journal. The guy knows cars, and clearly knows how to put together a jaw-droppingly awesome book about them.

The Cave | Inflatable Diamond Grid Tent

The Cave | Inflatable Diamond Grid Tent

The Cave tent from Heimplanet is an inflatable tent whose geodesic design is based on the molecular structure of a diamond, one of the most stable structures in nature. That makes it an incredibly sturdy place to camp, and it sure doesn’t hurt that it looks like something out of a 1970’s sci fi movie. The backbone of the design is an inflatable “diamond grid” of self-supporting beams. They take less than a minute to blow up with a standard hand pump, and are divided into separate air chambers so if one of them gets damaged, say by a sasquatch bite, the whole thing won’t come down on top of you.

Supported by the grid are an outer and inner tent of lightweight, breathable fabric that provide space for up to six people sitting or three people sleeping. There’s also the requisite waterproof ground sheet, sewn-in storage bags, and a detachable gear loft for stowing stuff at the rooftop or hanging a lamp.

And when the fun’s done, it takes about a minute to deflate again into a very compact pack.

Photo Allegory | By Sarolta Bán

Photo Allegory | By Sarolta Bán

You may be wondering what photo allegory is (admittedly, I had to look it up). Basically it’s a picture that can be interpreted to reveal a hidden meaning or an abstract idea. But what we do know is that this digital photo manipulation is pure awesomeness.

Created by Sarolta Bán,  a 29 year old photographer from Hungary (originally a jewelry designer), up to 100 different layers are used for each image, and can sometimes take several days to finish. In her own words, “I like using ordinary elements and by combining them, I can give them various stories, personalities. I hope that the meanings of my pictures are never too limited, are open in some way, each viewer can transform them into a personal aspect.”

Most of her images are available as digital prints and canvases.…

Hamboards

Hamboards

If the name “hamboard” conjures images of bacon-wrapped skateboards in your mind, you’re not alone. Though, once you see a hamboard out on the roads, you’ll still probably be scratching your head.

Hamboards were developed over eight years by a family of seven California von Trapps surfers and combine the looks of a surfboard with the wheels of a skateboard. They wanted to simulate the feeling of surfing when the tide was flat, so the hamboard bends and swivels just like a surfboard in the ocean.

You can’t always get to the water, so if you’re a hardcore surfer dude who likes to hang ten on the Pipeline and all that other Ninja Turtle stuff,  a hamboard might be in your best interest.…

Cirrus Ice Ball Press

Cirrus Ice Ball Press

The problem with ice cubes: they melt. There are two reasons for this. The first is that they’re ice. And the second is that they’re cubes. Now you can fix one of these.

Just stick a chunk of ice between the two halves of the Cirrus Ice Ball Press, then stand back and let the sphericality happen. About a minute later, presto chango, it’s a perfect sphere of ice. And a sphere has the absolute minimum surface area of any solid shape. According to physics and chemistry and probably magic, that means slower melting. And according to people who like their drinks to stay cold, that means happiness.…
