Style Guide: Men's Suits

Style Guide: Men’s Suits

If you want to be taken seriously in the real world, you need to ditch those torn jeans and t-shirts and opt for some higher-end threads.

You don’t have to look like a banker to be treated as an adult, however. Adding a dash of color to your wardrobe can help you maintain a youthful style fit for a mature man.

We’re going to attack different sections of your closet in future articles, but for now let’s stick with the crux of a “big-boy” look – the suit.

Never Wear It “Off the Rack”

Most men believe they can pull a suit off the rack and buy it as long as the arms are long enough. Don’t be that guy. A suit purchased “as-is” will look boxy and bulky, giving you a stout, “kid playing dress-up in his dad’s closet” appearance.

The key to a great suit, regardless of color or style, is tailoring – and you don’t have to drop $1000+ on custom work-wear to get a tailored look.

Simple things, like taking the sleeves up or the waist in can make you appear like you were born in that suit. And most alterations don’t cost more than $10-$15 a piece. Trust me, that Polo Ralph Lauren you bought on sale at Macy’s can look (and feel) like a hand-crafted work of art with a few nips and tucks.

A few tips:

  • A cinched waist will give you a tapered look and a better silouhette.
  • Don’t be afraid to show some cuff (or socks). People should be able to
Mansory Zapico

Mansory Zapico

Mansory is the customization company that’s behind the upgrades of such exotic automobiles as the Rolls-Royce White Ghost , Ltd. Edition and Bentley Continental Flying Spur Speed, Mansory Edition. Apparently not content just modding out ultra-lux saloons and coupes, Mansory now introduces the Zapico—a carbon fibre/aluminum-laden ultra motorcycle.

Unlike most of its car masterpieces—which are taken from existing makes and models and substantially upgraded—the Mansory Zapico is, from the ground up, an original product. The motorbike boasts an S&S 124 cubic-inch V2 under the hood that’s worthy of 160 horsepower and will send, at near light-speed, the bike from 0-60mph in a blazin’ fast 3.3 seconds. Thanks to the aluminum, carbon fibre, and other materials designed to be light, yet top-grade—it weighs an almost-unheard-of-for-this-class 750 pounds.

Other, but equally as impressive, items on the Mansory Zapico include large 10 x 18-inch carbon disc rear wheels (3.5 x 18 front) and a polished aluminum spoiler, tank, and rear fender. It’s quite indisputably one super-sexy motorbike that’s befitting of even the Terminator himself.…

SportChassis P4XL

SportChassis P4XL

It’s possibly one of the toughest-looking, gargantuan trucks on the road: behold the SportChassis P4XL. Forget fuel efficiency. Forget about finding a good parking place; hell, just forget about everything you know about trucks, because the SportChassis p4XL defies all the rules. This beast packs a whopping 8.3L Cummins-built diesel engine worth 330 horsepower and, ready yourself for it, a menacing, Earth-shattering 1,000 ft/lb of raw torque.

Still not impressed? How about the fact that the P4XL sports a 17,000lb air suspension in the rear, a 10,000lb front axle assembly, and the coveted Allison TRV3200 5-speed tranny? Or that it implements a shift-on-the-fly style system, which lets the driver change between two- and four-wheel drive while in motion? You can even order the beast with a rear hitch that’s height-adjustable.

As far as standard equipment is concerned, all that’s merely the tip of the iceberg. Notice the 22-inch wheels and think of the engine’s raw power: think that the cabin may be a bit noisy, or that handling and safety will take a backseat? Think again. The truck is designed with a proprietary noise-canceling system—dubbed the ‘Passive Noise Reduction System’—as well as a state-of-the-art Ride Enhancement Package—which guarantees a safe, secure, and luxurious ride.

Don’t think for a second that the interior has been skimped on. Standard fare inside includes an exclusive Pioneer sound system, high-tech insulation/sound-proofing material for quietness and isolation from the outside, and a large GPS screen with satellite radio and Bluetooth. And as far as options—well, there’s simply too many to list!…

Podvaal Revolve Watch

Podvaal Revolve Watch

Remembering to wear a watch each day is hard enough when it’s a single piece of jewelry. Remembering to wear one that’s three individual pieces is probably impossible.

The Podvaal Revolve Watch is just a concept at the moment, but if it were being manufactured today, expect a timepiece made out of wood, metal and magnets where each ring corresponds with a part of the current time – hours, minutes and seconds. As time progresses, the wheels turn and the numbers pop into place on your wrist.

The plan is to make the Revolve function on any power source, be it solar, battery or mechanical.

We come across a lot of watch concepts these days, but few are as unique and beautiful as the Podvaal Revolve.…

Microsoft Surface 2

Microsoft Surface 2

Microsoft’s massive “Table of Doom” has been redesigned into something a little more…subtle. Resembling something akin to a flat-panel television, the new Surface 2 is ready to make your futuristic dreams come true.

Microsoft’s updated table-computer features a 40-inch LCD multitouch display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080. PixelSense, a technology developed my Microsoft, recognizes up to 50 simultaneous touch points on the screen, meaning you and your friends can play games or look at photos together all at the same time.

The Surface 2 also understands when certain objects are placed upon its…well, surface. For example, when a digital camera is resting on the table, the pictures within are “scattered” across it, allowing the user to view and manipulate those photos for sharing across sites like Facebook and Twitter.

It’s not the cheapest gadget on the market, but $7,600 is a lot better than the $12,500 the original Surface cost a few years ago. Just try not to spill your coffee on it.…

It’s free, and we’ll keep you up-to-date with all of the cool stuff we find! Cars, clothes, video games, movies, gadgets, you name it!
