Indoor Skydiving

It’s not fair that people, who aren’t afraid to jump out of an airplane at 20,000 feet or whatever, are the only ones that get the chance to experience the rush of skydiving. What about those of us, who would hurl three days’ worth of stomach contents over the Grand Canyon at the very thought of it? Don’t we deserve a chance?

Vegas Indoor Skydiving is just one of several locations throughout the world that allow this experience in the safety and comfort of an indoor facility where you’re just a few feet off the ground instead of a few thousand. They use a vertical wind tunnel technology to pull it off. All you’ve got to do is show up for the training class prior to your “jump,” and get ready to have some fun.

django unchained scene

Django Unchained on Blu-Ray

While the latest film from Quentin Tarantino — this time a spaghetti western re-imagining of the classic Franco Nero western Django — went a little long for my tastes, everything up to the final 30 minutes was downright riveting, and the KKK hoodie scene was worth the price of admission. Now you can relive one of the most violent westerns of all time in stunning Blu-ray with Django Unchained.

Join Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz, and Leonardo DiCaprio, on another revisionist period piece from the man, who brought you Inglorious Basterds and Kill Bill. Presented in a 2-disc DVD / Blu-ray combo pack, Django Unchained has the quality resolution and bonus materials you’ve come to expect from the home video market. So saddle your player up and let it ride.

bugle app

Bugle App for iPhone

If you’ve got an iPhone and a desire not to be caught out in the wild facing a situation where you have to hack off your own arm to survive, then you need the Bugle App for iPhone. This free application (currently anyway) makes it easy for you to plan a trip, enjoy yourself, and check in when you return or whenever you decide.

It’s an application that could very well mean the difference between life and death, though it doesn’t have to always go to that extreme. You could also use the Bugle App as a basic form of communication to let your loved ones know you’re all right whenever having to travel for a business trip or should you decide to take a vacation. So sound the bugle and ease some minds by letting everyone know you’re a-okay.

LikeBright

LikeBright

Finally, an alternative to online dating that actually makes sense. While Match.com made a few strides forward in expanding the overall dating scene, it’s biggest drawback has been that there is no recommendation scene for you to tell whether the girl you’re about to meet is the genuine article. LikeBright takes the concept of meeting through a friend and makes it anonymous to your friend and to the friend of your friend whom you’re pining for via its Facebook app.

If she’s a member and you like her, she’ll be notified, but your identity will be kept a secret unless she likes you, too. If there’s a match, you’re introduced and the magic is then up to you. The only thing we can’t figure out at this point: what if you’re the only one on your friend’s list who’s signed up with the service. Wouldn’t she be able to figure things out via process of elimination? Other than that, it’s definitely a great concept as it continues to grow.

bioshock 3

Bioshock Infinite

Say goodbye to Rapture and hello to the gorgeous City in the Sky. While this new location is one of opulent beauty, it holds just as many dark secrets as before. You are Booker DeWitt, a Pinkerton detective in 1912 looking for a missing girl. Simple concept, but from it, spawns a dark adventure that may be the best the series has produced thus far.

But the makers of Bioshock Infinite clearly understand that a great game is about more than story and graphics. The gameplay continues to inch forward with improvements, building on a solid foundation that began with the very first. Play on your Xbox 360 or PC. Just don’t make any plans.

hyperkin retron 5

RetroN 5 Classic Console Gaming System

Remember those days when you used to burn 12 or 14 hours per day of your summer glued to the video game system you owned and thinking the only thing that could make it better was if you had every console under the sun? That way if you got bored with one you could just move along to the next? Well, the Retron 5 from Hyperkin gives you that experience, but it does it without you having to worry about where all the plugs will go.

This all-in-one retro gaming system includes the Nintendo, SNES, Famicom, Genesis (with Mega Drive), and GameBoy Advance (with classic and color support). All this brought to you with HDMI capabilities, so these classic games will look better than they ever did. Plus, you get your own wireless Bluetooth controllers making cords very minimal. Get ready to burn those free days again. Just make sure it doesn’t affect your job.

bronsons loose

Bronson’s Loose! The Making of the Death Wish Films

Two things: if you don’t know who Charles Bronson and/or Death Wish is, then you’re either very young or you don’t belong on a men’s website. The Death Wish films — five of ‘em, but mainly the first two — wrote the book on vigilantes and revenge flicks. And now Paul Talbot has written the book on how each of these films came to fruition.

Fascinating and sometimes hilarious insights on Bronson and his long-time collaborator Michael Winner, told in fluid and authoritative language that anyone who grew up with these films will find appealing. Furthermore, those of you who are about to be introduced to the Death Wish remake on the horizon will have a great primer on what came before. Your move, creep. (We had to borrow that line from RoboCop since Bronson never hardly spoke.) Also available from Amazon in a $4 Kindle edition for those of you who don’t mind eReaders.

the one

The One Motorcycle Show Hardcover Annuals, Volumes 1 and 2

The One Motorcycle Show may only be in its third year, but it has already attracted a rabid following of fans in the Portland area where it is held February-ish. (The last show was Feb. 8, 9, and 10.) If you couldn’t make it, or if you live too far to ever make it, but you love motorcycles, fret not. The current Kickstarter campaign to bring these shows to full color life is under way.

To be published in beautiful, high-quality hardcovers, these photo books will highlight every bike that was able to make The One Show during years 2010 and 2011. And if this campaign is successful, you can bet there will be future editions. For motorcycle enthusiasts, coffee table book seekers, or appreciators of fine photography everywhere.
